About:

Birdy is an interdisciplinary artist and BFA student currently enrolled at the Alberta University of the Arts…

Born and raised in Alberta, Birdy’s work is deeply rooted in and amongst the prairie grasses and below Chinook archs. Connection to the land and its inhabitants is fundamental to their creative practice.

Their practice is really centered around the relationship between time and the land, healing, and awareness of the materials they use and the life of the materials. A combination of glass, fibre, metal and two-dimensional processes of drawing and painting are utilized in Birdy’s visual work to create both kinetic and static images of time.

Birdy seeks to challenge preconceptions and deconstruct systemic fallacies through their creative practice by opening up a space free of judgement for the purpose of intro- and extrospection. It is in this space that Birdy attempts to discover and introduce new ways of knowing and understanding how we think, feel, and experience our existence on all planes.
